Exhausted

I played disc golf in Clemson last night.  We actually played twice.  And we definitely played until 4:00 in the morning.  I am working on next to no sleep.  Everything is OK.  I used-to-could do this all the time.  (I so can’t do it anymore)

On a more serious note - as I was reading and praying this morning, I had a thought.  (This is basic - so don’t think I am going to drop anything new or exciting on you.)  It is this simple.  I want students to fall in love with Jesus.  In the words of so many different people (most recently that I have seen Steven Furtick) - “vision flows from the top down.”  And to me that means - if I want to see students falling in love with Jesus, I have to be in love with Jesus.  It is that simple.  If I am true to that - an overflow will occur.

See - I told you it was simple.

Slightly Ashamed

If you check my list of things I don’t like - you will see that David Archuleta is on that list.  I look at him and his boyish good looks and humble attitude and the whole package makes me sick.  He is an ‘alpha male.’  There is no wrong that this kid could do.  He did mess up a song.  But this week he sang a song that I had never heard.  I didn’t want to tell anyone about this, but i feel like I need to defend my position.  I still don’t like Archuleta - but his performance this week was awesome.  So much so - that I bought it on iTunes.  I bought the whole David Archuleta version of “You’re the Voice” on iTunes.

And because I don’t know a good way to segue into this - so I will just say it.  Another song that will be played during the Guitar Hero Tournament is Woman by Wolfmother.

Guitar Hero Tournament

I announced earlier in the week that there would be a Guitar Hero Tournament on Friday.  I have reconsidered.  Having less than a week to prepare for this is ridiculous.  But on Saturday, April 5 at 6:00 - the tournament will be held at Patat Automotive.  I am going to be releasing songs that definitely will be in the tourney.

The songs will be coming from both Guitar Hero II and III.   The first round will be songs from either the first or second set of each game.  Songs will be played head to head and each pairing will play a different song.  As you progress through the rounds - the songs will inevitably get harder.

The first song to be revealed is (drum-roll please) Mississippi Queen by Mountain.

Challenged

Things are going well.  I really have nothing to complain about.  My only problem right now is that I don’t know jack-crap about video editing.  It is frustrating.

But today - I was challenged.  I found out today what a friend of mine really thinks of me.  No - this isn’t anything bad.  He said that he sees me “starting a potential movement of God.”  I am not writing this here to make people think that this is what I see in myself or to make you think that about me as well.  But I read those words and my heart started to pound.  I got scared.  I am scared to death as I type this.  Can I live up to this?

I read these words and step back and look at myself and examine my own selfishness and laziness and think to myself: “How can anyone say that?”  But then I step back into reality and realize that it isn’t Blake Comer who is going to do anything.  If anything happens as a result of anything that Blake Comer does - it is completely through the Holy Spirit.

Thanks Timmy.  Thanks for the challenge.

Tuesday Review

As many people know - Tuesday is the day that new albums are released. Hopefully - I will be reviewing several albums as summer gets here. There are several bands that are releasing new albums in the next couple of months that I am very excited about. Today - Panic at the Disco (or as Cliff says - Danger at the Arcade) dropped their sophomore release - Pretty. Odd.

I had heard that things were different and that they were going in a different direction with their music - but i had no idea that this was where we were headed. I was told that the new album was reminiscent of the Beatles. And after listening to it (three times) this morning - I have to agree. Very reminiscent of the Beatles. More importantly it is amazing. This album will get in your head and you won’t want to get it out.

What are you doing right now? Buy this album. Download it from iTunes. You won’t regret this.

This was truly love at first listen. I can’t accurately rate this album. But - right now I give it 5 out 5 stars.

Panic at the Disco - you have blown my mind.

I Feel Good

Sometimes you wake up in the morning and you go to work and you just aren’t feeling it.  Today - I am feeling it.  I woke up this morning with a good feeling.  I don’t know how to explain it.  I guess what I am experiencing is the joy that comes through knowing Jesus Christ.  It is a beautiful thing.  I am happiness that surpasses my circumstances.  God is good - and I don’t think I revel in his joy enough.  His joy is my strength.  And today - I feel really strong.

Announcements:

Middle School Girls - there is going to be a slumber party/sleep over extravaganza at my house on Thursday.  Laura Beth is going to hang out and do all the girly-slumber-partyish things with them.  (I am going to disappear for the night)  So if you read this blog and are a middle school girl - come to the party.  If your daughter is a middle school girl - get her to come.  I promise they will have a blast.  Laura Beth is looking forward to hanging out and getting to know everyone a little bit better.

LINC Students - this is the first official announcement about this - but this Friday - there will be a Guitar Hero Tournament at Patat Automotive hosted by LINC.  I will push the tournament on Wednesday night - but if you are reading this and you come to LINC or if you have a student that comes - send them.  We are going to hang out, have a good time, eat some pizza, and have a Guitar Hero Tournament.  This is going to be a lot of fun.  And there will be a prize for the (second place) winner.  (I would say that there would be a first place prize - but I am going to be in the tournament.  So - the person I beat in the final round will get a prize of some sort.)

If you are a student a Freedom Fellowship - come hang out with us on Wednesday nights in the basement of Patat Automotive on Wade Hampton Boulevard from 7:00ish to 8:00ish.  If you need to directions call the office or email me at blake.comer@gmail.com.  Have a great Spring Break.

March Madness - like never before

CBS has started something new.  This year - you can watch any game online.  It is amazing.  If you live in Wyoming and are a huge Austin Peay fan - you can watch it online.  Regardless of what game is being shown on your local network, you can watch any game that is being played live on CBS.com.  This changes March Madness.  My “madness” is taken to the next level.  This year - I watch UNC play no matter what.  Even as they pound the living daylights out of Mount Saint Mary’s.  I am going to sit on the couch and watch basketball on my TV and in my lap.  Thank you CBS.
